5 Tips to Clean and Maintain Your Polyaspartic Garage Floor

The great benefits of our polyaspartic floors include their long-lasting durability and ease of maintenance.

Follow these simple routines to ensure the shine and durability of your new flooring lasts for years

If you’ve already made the decision to upgrade your garage flooring, then you already have enjoyed the simplicity of maintaining them. One of the best (of many) benefits of polyaspartic flooring in your garage is the ease of maintenance and, as a fellow garage organizers and enthusiasts, we know that you’re passionate about maintaining that “wow” factor in your flooring. But just how do you keep your new floors clean and looking like the day they were installed for years to come? Here are some simple and routine maintenance tips we recommend to help keep your new floors clean, shiny and to improve the protective durability of your floor.

1. Dust Mop and Sweep:

One of the great advantages of the decorative flaking in the flooring is that it hides most typical spills or dirt that are inevitably going to land on your garage floor. Of course, just because it hides the dirt doesn’t mean that the dirt isn’t there. We recommend regular sweeping with a microfiber dust mop or soft-bristled broom to clear your floors from dust, dirt and debris. Regularly removing the normal garage floor debris that lands on your floors also ensures that they’ll be less susceptible to cosmetic damages and scratches Plus, your floor’s smooth coating makes it even easier to mop and sweep compared to your concrete floor which may have had cracks, damages and imperfections in its surface.

2. Spot-treat Spills:

Your new polyaspartic flooring is durable and highly resistant to spills and stains, but it’s still best to spot-treat and remove any spills immediately. Most common spills can simply be wiped with a paper towel or soft cloth. Other spills or stains, such as rust, may require a bit more. Solutions that contain acids, including citrus or vinegar, can strip the finish of its glossy coating over time. We recommend spot-treating any spills with a small amount of Dawn and the rinsing with clean water.

3. Perform Semi-Frequent Heavy Cleaning:

You chose polyaspartic floors for many reasons, including their aesthetics and their slip-resistant nature. Again, using the wrong-cleaners (such as Ajax, Comet or other abrasive cleaners) can leave residue or streaks on the floor that is slippery – negating some of the slip-resistant benefit of your new flooring. Again, we link using just a small amount of Dawn and then rinsing with clean water. This will be enough to keep your floors not only looking great, but ensuring their long-lasting performance.

4. Limit Exposure to Natural Elements:

Polyaspartics are UV-stable which means that they will keep their original visual characteristics year after year. This is contrast to epoxy finishes which will gradually experience polymer breakdown and fading with prolonged exposure to sunlight and UV rays. However, even though your new floors are made to be tough, that doesn’t mean that they are forever immune to every element under the sun. The varying conditions of each Colorado season mean that your garage – and the vehicles and tires that travel in and out of it – will bring in its share of mud, gravel, snow, salt and dirt. Be mindful of the natural fragments and particles which can accumulate on your floors.

5. Don’t Slide or Drag Heavy Equipment:

The polyaspartic floor are directly bonded to your garage floor’s concrete, meaning both the visual appeal and the performance features will be locked in for years. However, you’ll still want to avoid dragging heavy equipment across the floor to avoid any chips, scratches or gouges against the surface. After all, you wouldn’t want to do this with your old concrete floors anyway! Think about common garage items such as tools, pipes or equipment with protruding nails, screws, etc. If you do have to move heavy equipment or machinery across your floors, try using mats, pads or enlisting the help of a friend or neighbor to avoid dragging across the floors.

When it comes to the combination of high quality and low maintenance flooring, a polyaspartic CGS Floor System is simply the best choice for your garage floor. These simple guidelines will keep them in top shape with maximum performance year after year.
